Welcome to my Blog!

This is the best place for you to catch up on the latest news about me.

- Jon Curran

I just got back from to weeks on the road, and there were a few good things that happened.  Nothing that I am completely satisfied with, but there are definitely things that I can take from the two tournaments.  The first was in Georgia.  The course was exactly how I envisioned it so I was prepared for it.  My wedges were tuned in and I made a lot of birdies.  I had two so-so rounds and two very promising rounds.  I was able to take it deep in the 3rd round with a 64 and put myself in good shape going into the final round.  I did something that is very tough to do on the Hooters Tour when you’re playing an easy course-make up some substantial ground on the field.

The following week was in Dothan, Alabama.  The course was the complete opposite from the week prior, but I knew that going in.  I was ready for a long and challenging course.  I felt as though I struck the ball with my long irons well enough to compete on a course of that length.  It stretched out to over 7500 yards so I didn’t get too many chances to attack with my shorter clubs. I hit a few drives that put me in some tough spots and before I knew it I was outside the cut line.  The second round I knew I needed something under par and I got off to a great start-2 under on the front and I could have easily shot 4 or 5 had a few more putts dropped.  The back 9 played tough and I hit a couple bad shots and ended up shooting even.  I was proud of the way I put myself in a position to post a good number when I knew I needed it.  Next time that I’m in that spot, I can be more relaxed and feel more comfortable with where I’m at.

I’m going to say it again, I really feel like something good is going to happen soon.  I truly believe that.  I’m seeing a few of my friends win out there, this week Jimmy Renner, and I feel like it is giving me more confidence to go forward in the upcoming events.

Time off…

I took a couple days off since we finished up the long drive from Houston.  I felt refreshed after that and have been practicing up for the next Hooters in Georgia.  Time off has been good, but I’m itching to get back on the road.  The word about my next event is that the course is short and has a lot of wedge opportunities.  In preparation for that, I’ve been working every night on my distance wedges.  I use a drill that I used back at Vanderbilt.  Once the range at Rio Pinar is closed, I set up targets at various distances ranging from 50 to 110 yards. I hit one shot to each target and work my way up and down the different distances, never hitting the same shot two times in a row.  It is such good practice because it makes you go through your routine every time and you never get used to hitting the same shot over and over.

The putting is coming along as well.  It’s more of a patience thing, than anything else.  If you keep positive and stay confident then great results will come.

All in all, I am without a doubt a better golfer since I’ve turned pro.  There is no question in my mind that something great will happen soon.

update

Hey all! Just got back to Orlando from Houston, TX.  All in all the trip was a success.  I made both cuts and felt like I played well.  I really want to get back on the road soon because I feel like I’m close to having a great week.  My game is in great shape and I love being on the road, so I think that’s a good combo for something positive to happen.

I have a couple weeks off until my next Hooters event in Hawkinsvile, GA.  I plan on playing a lot during that time and working on my putting too.   So, it’s very important to have the ability to make putts and that’s exactly what I’m going to try and  work on for my next event…I’ll keep you posted. First leg of events…

Hey  everyone!  I’ve been in Texas for a week now and it has been awesome thus far.  The heat is a little much at times, but you can’t beat the Hooter’s Tour as far as tournaments go.  It’s where everyone comes to play and the competition is better than any event I’ve ever played.  Last week I played in Austin, it’s a really cool city and the course was in great shape.  It was very easy so the tournament was kind of like a shoot-out.  After the first two rounds I was putting really well and hitting my wedges close so I was close to the lead.  Final group, the third round, in my first Hooter’s event was a big accomplishment.  The putter cooled off however and I shot 71.  Typically, out there if you have a round in the 70s you’re going to loose ground.  I finished with a 68 and moved back another 8 spots.  I wasn’t surprised by that, the conditions the final round were as easy as any of the other days.  All in all, the tournament was a success-I got myself close to the lead and I’m proud of that.

This week I’m in Houston.  I just played a practice round today with my friend Keegan who I’ve been traveling with.  The course is more difficult than Austin and par should be a more acceptable score…maybe.  I’ve been practicing the putting a lot and it feels like it’s getting back to where it was last week.  I’ll keep ya posted!
